I was driving between Dallas and Fort Worth the other night on a huge highway where the speed limit is 70. I was going exactly the speed limit and had been driving in that same lane for about 15 miles when I notice this car that was a good ways behind me speed up and start tailgating me so close that I couldn't see the headlights in my rearview mirror. The car starts flashing its brights at me and honking, so I speed up to about 76 to increase the distance a bit so I can change lanes, and BOOM flashing lights and siren and I get pulled over. The Texas state trooper asks me if there was some special reason why I "just took off" to which I responded that he was tailgating me close and flashing his brights and honking and I was confused and trying to change lanes as safely as possible. In the end I just got a warning but the whole time I felt like I had been tricked into "breaking the law.'
Anybody else have this happen to them or have any comments? I'd like to know if stuff like this is actually legal..
