PATERSON -- A Paterson police officer was charged Thursday with official misconduct for allegedly receiving oral sex from a female prisoner at the city jail, officials said.
Manuel Avila, 45, who has been a police officer for 19 years, turned himself in to authorities at the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office in Totowa on Wednesday. Passaic County Prosecutor James F. Avigliano said his white-collar crime unit is investigating with help from the Paterson Police Department's internal affairs division.
Avigliano said he did not know when the alleged incident occurred. Avila was released after posting bail.
