A former Baltimore police officer was arrested yesterday on charges that he forcibly raped a 16-year-old female last year while on the force, officials announced today.
Officer Rohan Mays, 27, of the 800 block of Rose Haven Road near White Marsh, was indicted by a city grand jury for second-degree rape, a charge that means no weapons are alleged to have been used in the crime. Margaret Burns, a spokeswoman for the state's attorney's office, said prosecutors believe the sex was not consensual.
The rape is alleged to have occurred between June and July of 2007. Baltimore police spokesman Donny Moses confirmed yesterday that Mays was on the force during that period.
Mays resigned from the police force last month, prosecutors said.
