Officer Gregory Thornton is proved to be a liar

Postby KC » 26 Jan 2008, Sat 12:47 pm

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo on Thursday fired an officer who was involved in a July incident that investigators said prompted his girlfriend to call 911 because she felt threatened by him.

Acevedo said in a disciplinary memo that officer Gregory Thornton repeatedly lied to internal affairs investigators and his supervisors during a review of the incident, including saying that he did not know his girlfriend had called 911.

Acevedo also said that Thornton failed to immediately notify his supervisor about his involvement in the incident and that he has a history of behavior with women that included "borderline stalking."

An independent arbitrator has upheld the termination of an officer fired last year after Police Chief Art Acevedo said he failed to notify his supervisor that he had been involved in a disturbance and lied to internal affairs investigators.

Officer Gregory Thornton had sought reinstatement during a January hearing.

Thornton had previously been suspended for five days in 2004, for 10 days in 2005 and for 15 days in 2007, all of which Acevedo said he considered in the ruling.

Hearing examiner John B. Barnard said in a ruling that “the entire record of Officer Thornton leaves no viable choice other than to sustain his indefinite suspension.”

Thornton was fired in January of 2008 stemming from an incident in July 2007 that investigators said prompted his girlfriend to call 911 because she felt threatened by him.

"Cops that lie, need to die!" A police officer that lies to get an arrest or send someone to prison should be shot.
