Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller is stalling to release records to the public

Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller is stalling to release records to the public after the Texas Attorney General told her to release the documents.

Mueller asked the Texas Attorney General if she could keep Washington County Sheriff records secret from the public. The Attorney General told Mueller, NO, that Mueller must release the records. State law allows 30 days for Mueller to release the records.

Out of over 200 requests we have made, Mueller is the first agency to use the 30-day rule on releasing records that the Attorney General allows. Every other agency in Texas we have dealt with has released records within 1 or 2 days after receiving a decision from the Attorney General.

Why doesn’t County Attorney Renee consider the importance of transparency and public engagement in law enforcement?

Why didn’t Attorney Renee Mueller file charges against Officer Kevin Mertz for lying on a police report?

If it were you or me who filed a false police report, this is what we would be charged with:

In Texas, knowingly making a false statement to law enforcement can lead to criminal charges under Section 37.08 of the Texas Penal Code, which classifies it as a Class B misdemeanor. This can result in penalties, including up to 180 days in jail and fines up to $2,000.

Story here:

During the trial, Mertz admitted to initiating physical contact in the dispute with Mayo.  He also said he had never taken away Mayo’s permission to come into his home.

In addition, Mertz said he did not initially tell Mayo he was calling 911, and that she only tried to stop him from making the call when she believed he was calling her mother.  He stated that once he confirmed he was calling the police, she did not try to stop him from doing so.

Further, Mertz admitted to trying to get the charges against Mayo dropped on the basis that he falsely depicted her in his report to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

A statement from Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller said the prosecution “felt the evidence proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” but respected the decision of the judge.  It also read, “Domestic violence cases are difficult cases with victims often recanting and blaming themselves.  However, the problem is widespread and often downplayed in our community and country, and it often affects many generations.”

The problem is Renee Mueller! Mueller knew that Officer Mertz lied on the police report. Why doesn’t she have a problem with police officers lying on police reports? Because they’re in bed with each other.
