Elton Mathis Waller County judge and corruption is his middle name has been issued a public warning by a state agency, concerning his role in a political fundraising concert.

Waller County Judge Carbett J. “Trey” Duhon III, along with District Attorney Elton Mathis, appeared on promotional flyers for the concert in 2017.  Judge Duhon approved the flyers—which read “In support of County Judge Trey Duhon and D.A. Elton Mathis and their 2018 Re-Election campaigns”—and also sold tickets for the concert at his law firm.

The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct determined that Duhon had violated two state rules while promoting the event, saying judges are prohibited from endorsing other candidates for public office, and that he improperly used his judicial standing to benefit private interests of the district attorney.

The State Commission says it has taken this action to help maintain public confidence in the judicial system.
