Police Reports and Police Records Now Available to the Public
Texas Sheriff – What you’ll find on our website below are details about accusations of misconduct against police officers and how those cases were resolved by the agencies for which they work. You’ll be seeing a rare sight; it is a remarkably unusual occurrence for members of the public to view these records.
We have obtained these records from departments across the state of Texas, under the state’s Freedom of Information laws. These are police records from which you can learn much about the quality of policing in your city or town in Texas.
We’re publishing police disciplinary records, police internal affairs investigation logs, police job evaluations, complaints filed by citizens, use of force data and transparency, money paid out in lawsuits and settlements in your city and towns in Texas, relating to police misconduct, police brutality and police killing citizens. Also police department employee rosters, of “names, positions and pay.”
We’re also keeping track of gypsy cops. A gypsy cop is a peace officer who is about to get fired but quits and goes to work at another department, because of police misconduct or poor job performance.
Officers have beaten members of the public, planted evidence and used their badges to harass women. They have lied, sent innocent people to prison, stolen, plant evidence, dealt drugs, sexual harassment, excessive force, drinking on duty, use of narcotics and discrimination. Despite their role as public servants, the men and women who swear an oath to keep our communities safe can generally avoid public scrutiny for their misdeeds.
The very fact of you reading these reports can help prevent future abuses by police officers whose job it is to serve and protect your community, not cause harm. These documents also send a signal to victims of police violence or other misconduct that their experiences should be known and their voices finally heard.
