Police Reports and Police Records On Police Officers Available to The Public

We have started to obtain police reports and records from police departments across the state of Texas, under the state’s Texas Public Information Act. Records of police misconduct that are filed away, rarely seen by anyone outside their police departments.

We are collecting and publishing police complaints, internal affairs records and disciplinary records of police officers. We also have obtained memos, cell phone text messages, videos and even emails.

What you’ll find on our website are details about accusations of misconduct against police officers and how those cases were resolved by the agencies for which they work. You’ll be seeing a rare sight; it is a remarkably unusual occurrence for members of the public to view these records.

We’re also keeping track of roaming cops. A roaming cop is a peace officer who is about to get fired but quits and goes to work at another department, because of police misconduct or poor job performance.

The very fact of you reading these reports can help prevent future abuse by police officers whose job it is to serve and protect your community, not cause harm. These are police reports from which you can learn much about the quality of policing in your city or town in Texas.

Who were the Texas DPS Troopers in Uvalde at the school shooting?

No one knows, the Texas Department of Public Safety isn’t giving out their names.

Here’s a list of the names of Texas Troopers who were station in Uvalde Texas, as well as the surrounding counties on May 24, 2022. There were 91 Texas DPS Troopers that day at the school shooting.

A State Trooper was on the scene Two minutes after the shooting started

Body camera footage released by the city of Uvalde last month shows a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was on the scene outside Robb Elementary School just 2 minutes and 28 seconds after the gunman entered, a timeline earlier than previously known.

The department had only disclosed, in timelines and testimony, that the first state trooper entered the school hallway at 11:42 a.m., nine minutes after the gunman entered the school. But DPS had not stated when the trooper first arrived at the school itself.

The more specific timeline raises further questions about DPS’s own transparency and role in the botched police response, even as the department leads the investigation into what happened. The body camera video was provided to CNN by Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, who has expressed his frustration with the department’s investigation and accused DPS of a “cover-up.”

The head of the largest police union in Texas said the new timeline raised serious questions about the department’s trustworthiness.

What Were The Texas State Troopers Doing During The Uvalde School Shooting?

With 91 Texas State Troopers on the scene, not one went in to save the children while they were being killed.
