Liberty County Texas -A deputy constable was arrested in College Station for public intoxication and unlawful carry of a weapon in a bar.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – An off-duty reserve deputy with Liberty County’s Constable Pct. 4 was arrested in College Station early Saturday morning, just after midnight, for being publicly intoxicated while also having a loaded gun.

According to police reports, Jared Oliver was at a bar on Northgate where he was flashing his badge, telling multiple people that he was an undercover officer. At one point, he said to a bar employee that he had a gun on him.

Officers with the College Station Police Department arrived to investigate possible “criminal activity”. After talking to the bar management and an employee, they began looking for Oliver, who had generated a bar tab.

They learned what he was wearing and that he was with a woman. Eventually, police found him drinking at a booth. When asked if he had a gun on him, he responded by saying, “I’m a cop! I do. I’m a police officer.”

He was told to place his hands behind his back, as he asked not to be handcuffed. Police saw a handgun in his waist and also found a “silver star law enforcement badge” after Oliver told them that he worked in Liberty County Pct. 4.

Police placed him in handcuffs and escorted him back to the stock room, where they removed the gun, which had 15 live rounds in the magazine and one live round in the firing chamber.

They took him outside the bar, where police noticed he was “extremely intoxicated.” Oliver told police he couldn’t remember when he started drinking or how many drinks he had. He then added that a man, who claimed to be in a gang, approached him that night, telling him his gang says he’s an undercover cop, but he wasn’t going to tell them.

He explained that is why he went to the bar employee, telling them what just happened and that he was a cop who had a gun on him.

When police asked Oliver if he thought it was a good idea to go into a bar with a gun and drink, he allegedly told them, “I know my tolerance, so I would say no, but I know that I should probably say yes.” Police attempted a field sobriety test; however, Oliver refused.

As they investigated, multiple employees told police that Oliver had allegedly flashed his badge at them, telling them he was a cop. Oliver’s wife also told police that he had consumed three or four mixed drinks and two shots since 9 p.m. Friday.

Out of fear, Oliver would continue to “spread alarm among bar staff or even bar patrons” about having a loaded gun while intoxicated; he was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication. Police also charged him with Unlawful Carry of a Weapon since he was not on his own property nor had consent from the property owner to have a gun.

Online records with Liberty County show that Oliver was deputized with the Liberty County Pct. 4 Constable’s office as a reserve deputy constable in April of this year.

He was released the same day as the arrest.
